What You'll Need

Step-by-Step: Making Your Wax Melts
Step 1 — Melt Your Wax
Weigh out your wax and melt it gently using a double boiler or microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each. Heat to around 75–80°C until fully liquid.
Step 2 — Add Colour (Optional)
Once melted, stir in your wax dye or mica powder until evenly distributed. A little goes a long way — start with a small amount and build up.
Step 3 — Add Fragrance Oil
Remove from heat and allow the wax to cool slightly to around 65–70°C before adding your fragrance oil. Adding fragrance at the right temperature helps it bind properly and maximises scent throw. Stir gently for 1–2 minutes.
Step 4 — Pour into Your Silicone Mould
Carefully pour the wax into your silicone mould cavities. Pour slowly and steadily to avoid air bubbles. Place the mould on a flat, heat-safe surface.
Step 5 — Cool and Set
Leave your wax melts to cool at room temperature for at least 2–4 hours. Avoid moving them while they set. Do not place in the fridge — rapid cooling can cause cracking or sinkholes.
Step 6 — Demould
Once fully set and cooled, gently flex the silicone mould to release your wax melts. They should pop out cleanly with no residue — one of the great advantages of using silicone.
Tips for Perfect Results
- Pour temperature matters — too hot and your fragrance will evaporate; too cool and you'll get a lumpy pour.
- Fragrance load — stick to 6–10% of your wax weight for a strong but safe scent throw.
- Cooling time — patience pays off. Rushing the cooling process is the most common cause of imperfect wax melts.
- Mould size — smaller cavities cool faster; larger shapes like our 3D Moulds may need a little longer.
Caring for Your Silicone Mould After Use
Wax releases cleanly from silicone, making clean-up easy. Simply wipe out any residue with a dry cloth or kitchen paper, then wash with warm soapy water. Avoid abrasive scrubbers. Store flat or hanging to maintain the mould's shape.
